Cube Desktop

It has been done a million times before. Taking some inspiration from the Cube default scene in render, this was also take on a post I saw on the blender forums. Simple shapes can often look rather awesome as desktop images, so I had a go at recreating the panelled cube shape, adding a greebled interior section. Happy with the result i rendered a desktop image (i got the resolution wrong, so it was bigger than my monitor native, by 200 pixels). The Cubes are instances of each other, the scene itself clocks in at about 1.2million triangles! It took about 12 hours to render, and is still a little noisy because of the sun component of the sunsky.

The cubes themselves took longer than might be expected to model, as making sure the outer edges are smoothed but the inner ones are sharp can sometimes be a little tricky.
